ROYCE'S

      ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

    "I am a neo-expressionist artist.  Expressionism tells a story from a definite point of view or emotion, through the use of color and form.  The viewer is drawn to the painting by the emotions the painting evokes.  This is a subjective approach rather than objective which would be more realistic.  I use acrylic, watercolor and mixed media on paper, canvas or muslin to achieve the desired effect.

    My work is about spatial and spiritual relationships.  Art historically is often a religious statement.  My work is about God and our relationship with Him and the people around us.  I have always believed art should tell a story and reflect a time in a person's life.  Art should not only depict what is happening in the world, but be a driving force in helping to shape the religious, social and political views of the future.

    While working to convey this message I have exhibited in many galleries, painted back drops for church dramas, participated in and organized art festivals, and taught classes out of my studio.

    It seems like I have been painting and drawing all of my life.  I earned my BFA degree in 1982 from the University of Hartford Art School.
