RICHARD'S ARTIST'S STATEMENT: " I graduated with a major in art illustration and business, however I ended up working for the government and never developed my art skill. After I retired, which was January of 1999, I began to work at developing the skill the good Lord gave me in art. I have worked in oils and water color, but I enjoy pastels the most. I enjoy painting portraits, horses, western scenes, and recently still lifes. After I retired I purchased a scroll saw and have enjoyed created wild life scenes on slabs of wood and tree trunks then carving them out to make them even more three dimensional. Last semester I enrolled in a sculpture class and have enjoyed creating figures as well as horses in clay. I have never shown my work because I was not creating works of art while I was employed. However, this summer I entered the state fair and county fair art competitions and have won a few awards. I live in a very small town which has no art gallery. So I am grateful for this opportunity to display some of the pieces of work the Lord has graciously given me the talent to create.
