MARCELLA’S ARTIST STATEMENT: Christian Artist, POTTERY / SCULPTURE
Drips on DRIPS! Marcella continues her well know drippy glaze style on her newest of fine art pottery along with her flowing arms of sculptural art! Marcella is a master in the illusion of movement on such a hard stationary type of art medium. See her in the ART Magazine in Kansas City, SOUTHWEST ART Magazine, and the ESSENTIAL GUIDE magazine in the New Mexico. She is now listed in the ’2003 Santa Fe – Taos – Albuquerque COLLECTOR’S GUIDE’. Rising up fast as an artist to watch! Marcella’s works can be seen at in fine art galleries Prairie Village, Kansas, Taos, New Mexico, Golden, Virginia, and Hot Springs. THE FLOWING SPIRIT of MARCELLA SMITH "Since the beginning of my artist’s career, I have been fascinated by drips. They bring to my pieces a since of ‘movement’ and ‘flow’, helping to take away the otherwise cold feeling that comes from the hardness and solid permanence of this medium. Almost all of my collections have a gold or energetic yellow center that represents the color of our souls as we flow and move thru our lives and after, except for my ZEBRA WARE, this is marbled clay pottery that I use to demonstrate how when different color clays, or people, work together they can make a beautiful piece of art! My most recent Zebra ware is a large piece titled ‘Mountain Allure’. “Being a strong Christian, most of my pieces have some sort of spiritual meaning, not always visible to the average viewer, but are there none the less. My latest addition of semi-precious stones, besides bringing the beautiful colors and variety of media, also represents ‘wisdom’ or ‘adventure’ to me, for their age is much, much older then you or I, or the pottery it is attached to.” The TURQUOISE stone, which you will see on many of Marcella’s pieces, besides its wonderful beauty, is said by the Indians to enhance the joy of life, warn of danger, heal sadness and grief, induce wisdom, understanding, strength, good health, courage, success, love, good fortune, and is called the lucky stone. With the new PIONEER WOMAN, an abstract of a turquoise headed woman with her blanket flowing in the wind, and the introduction of the COVERED sculpture collection, gold glaze dripping over black slipped sculpture and pottery, new and interesting creations never stop coming from the deep and flowing spirit of Marcella Smith. Again Marcella brings to her patrons an unusual dance in color and spirit!
