"I stumbled one day, behind the scenes of
Exotic Circus Animals in disgusting stress
( I was appalled ).
I ask your help, to end the cruelty of man's abuse of these enslaved
animals for profit in an industry that's time has come to end. The traveling
circus denies our humanity to man and beast alike. The animal parade is akin to
the boxing match with only innocents on display.
Please become aware!
Please do not support exotic animal Circuses!!!
Please read below...
Circus
A Family Affair?
With only two weeks to get ready for opening night at the circus, we had
to work fast to get the elephants ready to perform.
Sadie, the youngest, was very timid and frightened. One day we had her in
the ring for training. She could not do her tricks she didn't understand and ran
out of the ring, afraid of punishment. we caught her, brought her back, forced
her to the ground and began to punish her for being so stupid.
Suddenly, we stopped hitting her and looked at each other. Sadie was
crying like a human being. She lay there on her side, tears streaming down her
face and sobs racking her body.
Ticket buyers please educate yourselves...It isn't what it seems!

A Ringling elephant slave crashes to the pavement during a circus "Animal
Walk." Notice the whip and bullhook in the trainer's hands.
Elephants are driven insane. The staff is of transients...mentally ill
people who terrorize the animals just to terrorize!
There is a holocaust for these animals going on people and your paying to see
the results of their terror!

I don't think the average person is aware of the torture these exotic
animals endure for your money and giggles! go to google search and learn. "
circuses behind the scenes "
I think you will be happy you are aware.
The reward system Barnum Bailey tells you about is purely propaganda.

Its goes deep and is quite upsetting but sure you want to know. and please pass
on this information to others.
Television viewers in some cities where Ringling Bros. is traveling will see for
themselves. PETA has been airing its “Make ’Em Scream” public service
announcement around the country. Viewers in Phoenix, New Orleans, and San Diego
have witnessed this ad, taken from shocking, heart-wrenching behind-the-scenes
footage of elephants’ being beaten until they scream. If anyone ever doubted
that elephants are trained through terrifying violence and intimidation, this
eye-opening footage will dispel all doubts.
Step right up, step right up.
The circus is in town. Get your peanuts, popcorn and a healthy dose of
animal torture, here.
That's right, treat the kids; torment a tiger. It's a dandy lesson to
teach the tykes.
Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, the Shrine Circus will be under the big top
at the town near you. Complete with elephants, lions and tigers. Now, it's
important for me to point out that the Shriners do an enormous amount of good in
the world and a small portion of that good is funded through the proceeds from
these circuses. Needless to say, it is not easy to criticize something
affiliated with such a worthwhile organization. But criticize I must.
Three years ago, I attended the Shrine Circus with my then 2 1/2-year-old
twin boys and vowed then that I'd never attend another circus that used wild,
exotic animals for entertainment. What caused such an epiphany? One of my sons
saw clearly with his not-yet three-year-old eyes what I willfully refused to see
-- that the animals were miserable and terribly treated, and what's more, the
routines that contained lions and elephants were, frankly, extremely boring. The
act in question occurred in the centre ring with a number of lions and tigers.
The show consisted of a man cracking a whip and getting reluctant beasts to jump
up on large step stools and jump through fiery hoops. At one point, the male
lion -- with his magnificent mane -- fell off his perch and was lodged between
the perch and the enclosure. One of my sons said: "That's not very nice for the
lion. Poor lion." I almost wept with pride for my son and pity for the lion.
The next day I did some research on exotic circus animals and found out
what happened in the ring was the humane stuff! The rest of their lives are
much, much worse. One has to wonder why, if circuses want to have animals
perform in their shows, they don't use domesticated animals that love to
perform, such as dogs and horses.
Such repugnance to exotic animal circus acts is catching on. So far, 30
municipalities across Canada have banned circuses that use exotic animals in
their show and the Shriners have adapted. Cheryl Wallach, manager of community
relations with the Calgary Humane Society, says it's difficult to get Calgary
city council to consider banning circuses that use exotic animals because that
leads directly to the issue of the animals used for our entertainment in the
Calgary Stampede. However, Wallach says the distinction between the Stampede and
the circus is the Stampede doesn't use exotic animals.
"We strongly encourage people to understand the suffering they are
supporting when they go to see a circus with wild animals in it," she says. Kim
Robinson, performing animal program co-coordinator with Zoocheck in Toronto, says
circus animals lead "hellish" lives.
"These lions and tigers live anywhere from 23 to 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, 52 weeks a year in a little cage about the size of your average
kitchen table," says Robinson. "They have to eat, sleep, urinate and defecate in
there," she says. "They have no quality of life at all."
"If the Calgary Zoo kept its lions locked up in small cages 23 hours a day
people would be outraged," she states.
She's bang on and yet many of us
just assume things are blissful backstage for these glorious creatures.
But what's truly baffling about circuses refusing to relinquish the boring and
cruel animal acts is the circuses that don't use animals are by far the more
popular.
Cirque du Soleil, which is coming here June 4-22, always sells out.
Yesterday I logged onto its website (www.cirquedusoleil.com) and I spent $315.25
for four tickets! Ticket prices are $65 to $185 per adult. In contrast, the most
expensive ticket at the Shrine Circus is $19 with the majority selling for $13
and it never sells out.
If that doesn't send the Shriners a message, then you should.
Boycott circuses with exotic animals in it.
Help turf the torture.
Exotic circus animals hard act to swallow
Thursday, March 13, 2003 By LICIA CORBELLA, EDITOR
Circuses distributed by The Elephant Allianiance.
She was a sweet little innocent brown bear who never hurt anyone...but
sometimes she had trouble balancing on the high wire. She was then beaten with
long metal rods until she was screaming and bloody. She became so neurotic that
she would beat her head against her small cage. She finally died. (Excerpts from
an interview with Gene, a former Ringling Bros. Circus employee, as interviewed
by The Elephant Alliance, 1993)
Most of us believe that circuses are wholesome, fun entertainment for all
concerned. Children and adults have been deceived into thinking circus animals
are happy. Most people only see them unchained and uncaged under bright lights,
surrounded by music and glitter. Little do they know that the animals they love
so much are kept chained and caged in dark, gloomy tents, denied sunshine and
fresh air most of their lives.
The happy image of circus animals is deliberately perpetuated by circus
promoters and would lose all of its appeal if the horrible details of the
animals' treatment, training, confinement and life of suffering became known.
Gene told of monkeys kicked and hit in the face with riding crops, of chained
elephants beaten with axe handles and bull hooks, often grabbed with sharp
instruments by the trunk, hind legs, and ears. Except when they perform,
elephants are chained by two legs and left to sway and rock for hours on end,
pulling hopelessly at their chains. He told of horses denied exercise, whipped
behind the ears and on their noses. He witnessed llamas and camels bleeding from
welts on their legs.
Henry N. Ringling, in his book "The Circus King," states "it is not
usually a pretty sight to see the big cats trained...they are all chained to
their pedestals and ropes are put around their necks to choke them down and make
them obey. All sorts of other brutalities are used to force them to obey the
trainer and learn their tricks. They work from fear." Circus train cars for the
animals are not temperature controlled, and the animals suffer greatly because
of this. Animals accustomed to colder climates have difficulty in the summer
when outside temperatures soar to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Tropical
animals find cold winter weather extremely hard to endure.
When we went to unload the elephants, we found the long trip and the cold
had been too much for one of the oldest, Queen. She was lying dead inside a car.
That night another elephant, Albert, came down with pneumonia and died the next
morning. (From "Elephant Tramp" by George Lewis) Often while traveling, fresh
supplies of drinking water are not available and animals suffer enormously. From
Tulsa to Tucson, a distance of 1,545 miles (a four-day trip), the elephants
stand chained in the same spot for over 100 hours.
It is simply not justifiable to remove animals from their natural habitat
by stealth, nor to breed them through captive programs and to force them to
perform for the benefit of others. Elephants are highly social animals who live
in close family units in large herds. In the wild, elephants walk 20 to 25 miles
a day gathering food and water. A favorite daily elephant activity is wallowing
and playing in the mud. Elephants are known for helping comrades in distress;
younger ones often travel alongside the elderly, guiding them along the way. If
an elephant is old or ill, the herd will form a circle around it for protection.
There is a lifetime attachment of a mother to her daughter. Family bonds are for
life.
The truth is that circus animals suffer immensely to entertain an
uninformed audience. After years of balancing on balls, jumping through hoops,
riding bicycles, walking on tightropes, and enduring many injuries, these old,
sick, tired animals are executed or sold to other circuses, zoos, private
menageries, research laboratories, or game farms to be shot by hunters as
recreation.
Do we want to promote such cruelty? Do we want to allow such violence to
continue? Do we want our children to believe this behavior is acceptable? Don't
we want the truth to be known?
The only lesson children learn from watching circus animal acts is that
man is capable of dominating these beautiful wild animals and can force them to
do unnatural tricks. Only when people know that whips, hooks, electric prods,
deprivation of food and water, and even the use of drugs are methods used to
force the animals to perform will this barbaric "tradition" end.

Sorry but these poor animals need your voice!
LOTA's Petition

Lota
I know, there are many 'bigger' problems in the world ....hunger, poverty,
suffering. Yes, its only 1 animal...a sick old elephant....but what YOU do in
the next few minutes could help LESSEN its suffering, you can choose to be part
of the solution. Silence or indifference is the same as inaction. The decision
is yours I know what it is like being way too busy...and you tell yourself 'alot
of people are already involved and taking care of it' ...just to ease the burden
on yourself. In your heart of hearts, you will know that you effectively chose
to become a part of a solution if you take a few minutes NOW. Just takes two
minutes.
You will feel good you made a
difference...I promise!

A POEM WRITTEN BY VICTORIA:
'SOMEONE PLEASE!
CAN YOU HEAR ME?'
by Victoria Heuman - victoriaellenb@comcast.net
Violently ripped away from my mothers true love.
I scream and cry for her -but deep I sense her heart is breaking.
Oh My God! what has happened?
Her comfort never comes ….I do not understand?
I’m placed inside shackles starved and beaten.
Its been a nightmare endlessly for days.
This can’t be…Please! Why are you so cruel ? What have I done?
Voices of men rise all around me
while sharp hooks penetrate my tender skin.
what can I do for you? I would! But please! Help me to understand?
My mind manages to stay focused I will try and leave
if only I could.
I know you do not like me ????
Sick and alone my heart weighs so heavy.
Some times you leave me locked up and alone which
seems unbearable without a
care. Only to return seemingly unhappy with what I am …but why? I cannot
understand?
The memories of what was once is now a dream it
seems.
Oh no! could it be this terrible pain is the life doomed for me? Who am I?
At times I seem to do what you want
but even then you strike again?
I continue to make that painful move in hopes you will except me.
I know most times by the tone of your voice I must disappoint you…
Believe me…I just do not understand?
A shower at the end of a long rubber hose…. oh how I
love and rejoice the cool of the
water! but even then with this one only joy your hands and glares always move
in anger…. please tell me what have I done?
These crowds of people scream as I move Are they
angry with me too?
Why? Frightened …I plead… are you so angry with me?
….What did I possibly do?
Relief or comfort is never near …It never seams to
come.
I try to please…. Confused and bewildered.
I’m patient to learn but please show some care.
… I’m trying to know what you need?
I have learned my only love is no longer near… her
memory so far away.
Please! I ask for somebody to care… I know someone once did!
I guess I’m no good really not worthy …you have told me in so many ways
Please……I just don’t understand ….what I have or
haven’t done?
I hear you...Victoria Heuman - victoriaellenb@comcast.net
