DANIEL'S ARTIST STATEMENT: "In Mark 1:17 it is written..."Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." The man who said these words who approached the Galilean fisherman of the New Testament, lives in my heart and spirit. And I, too, have a calling to serve the Lord and spread His word. However, unlike my predecessors, my way follows a very different path. Each day, after I cast my nets out onto the sea, I place my hand in the cool water and pick up different stones from which I transform into silver chained pendants. These pendants, in turn, serve to glorify the Spirit and His Name for others to wear and bear witness. It must be understood from the onset that although the basic design is the same, every stone used is different and has its special 'uniqueness. In this sense, the necklaces you order online will remain as different as the stones that lie in the Sea of Galilee today. The fish outline is a logical symbol the early Christian church adopted. Fish have played a major role in the gospels (as the running quotes on the bottom of this page clearly shows). Some Christians believe that a second link between their religion and the fish symbol is seen in the Greek word for fish (ichthus, spelled: lota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma). That is an acrostic for "Jesus Christ, of God, the Son, the Savior" [lesous (Jesus) Christos (Christ) Theou (of God) Uiou (the Son) Soter (the Savior)]. An acrostic is an "arrangement of words in which the first letter of each line ordinarily combines with others to form a word or words or the alphabet." The Apostles were often referred to as "fishers of men". Followers of Christianity were called Pisciculi; the root of this Latin word is "fish". The symbols of "sacramental fish", with wine and a basket of bread represents the Eucharist and the Last Supper in Christian art. The symbol was simple to draw and was often used among Christians as a type of password during times of persecution by the Roman government. If two strangers met and were unsure whether each other were a Christian, one would draw and arc in the earth like :). If the other were a Christian, they would complete the symbol with a reverse arch (), forming the outline of a fish. For this reason, Daniel Carmel - the Galilean Fisherman - the Stone Jeweler has adopted the fish symbol as the focus of his unique jewelry. It shows his covenant with the Lord and his Ministry he has chosen to follow and share with generations to come. Daniel fishing on the Sea of Galilee:
